Please Note: South Carolina Licensees must take the Rules, Regulations, Safety and Disinfection course BEFORE taking any additional courses for CEU credit hours, this is a state board requirement.
PSA: A technical issue affecting some Apple devices using the new iOS 12 update has been reported. While this only affects some users intermittently, we recommend taking our courses on a different device until the issue has been completely resolved.
South Carolina Board of Cosmetology
Renewal Time Is Approaching!
Current South Carolina cosmetology licenses will expire at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2019. Reminders will be mailed in January as a courtesy. If the licenses are not renewed as of March 11, 2019, the licenses are considered expired, and the reinstatement process must be completed in order for you to continue to provide cosmetology and other related services. It is unlawful to practice without a current license.
To avoid a delay in licensure/salon services, you must have 12 hours of continuing education on file with the Board’s office that was obtained during the licensure period March 11, 2017 – March 10, 2019. You may renew online as long as you have a valid e-mail address on file with the Board’s office. If you do not remember your User ID and password, you may go to https://eservice.llr.sc.gov/OnlineRenewals/ and click on “I Forgot/ Do Not know my User ID and/or I Forgot My Password”.
Paper Application – The paper application will be available on the Board’s website as of January 2nd and you do not need a user ID or password to print it.
Name Changes – If you have a change of name, please submit a paper renewal application along with a copy of your legal documentation (marriage license, divorce decree) to either of the addresses listed on the renewal application.
New Licensees – If this is your first time renewing, you are not required to complete continuing education for the first renewal.
Inactive Status – If you did not obtain CE classes during the licensure period, March 11, 2017 – March 10, 2019, you may place your license in inactive status via the online renewal or you may submit a paper renewal application and select the inactive status box. You are required to pay the renewal fee in order to maintain inactive status. You will not receive a license as you cannot practice or render cosmetology/ cosmetology-related services while the license is inactive. This is not an option for circumventing the CE requirement as you will be required to gain CE classes for each renewal period while on inactive status if you decide to reactivate your license at a later date.
Continuing Education – Licensees may check their CEU hours online prior to beginning the renewal, by selecting “Check Your CEU Hours Online” on the Board of Cosmetology education page. Only half of the 12-hour CE requirement may be completed online. Cosmetologists are the only licensees who may complete any CE class with the exception of instructor classes for CE credit.
Instructors – Licensed instructors must have evidence of twelve (12) contact hours of instruction geared toward teaching on file prior to renewing. Only half of the 12-hour requirement may be completed online. If you complete 6 hours online, you must complete 6 hours in-person with the same CE provider in order to gain full credit.
